Why are there inconsistencies with the recording of permit details?

Currently, building departments across the U.S. do not require the use of a standardized format when documenting information for building permits. This means that every building department adheres to their own set of permit specifications. Therefore, depending on the building department, certain details related to the project (such as contractor, inspector, permit spend, etc.) may not be required fields, and consequently will not be documented. This does NOT mean, that if inspection details are not listed then there was not an inspection for that project, it simply means the inspection details were not recorded by the building department. Similarly, if contractor details are not listed, this does not mean a contractor was not associated with that project.

A building permit is an official approval to proceed with construction, it validates the project complies with the local standards (the building codes). These standards are in place to ensure the safety of current and future owners and occupants. This means that when permitted construction takes place, the builders confirm that the construction is done under best-practices so the places where we sleep, where we send our kids to school, and where we work are safer. At the end of the day, building permits keep your loved ones safe.

The BuildFax Roof Condition score is an estimate based on BuildFax’s exclusive modeling analytics. This score is used to estimate how well the roof has been updated over time.

• Low = the lowest priced job cost in your neighborhood.

How do we know?

• BuildFax collected the "Year Built" from nearby homes in the neighborhood and used these values to calculate the average property age.
