Why are there inconsistencies with the recording of permit details?
Currently, building departments across the U.S. do not require the use of a standardized format when documenting information for building permits. This means that every building department adheres to their own set of permit specifications. Therefore, depending on the building department, certain details related to the project (such as contractor, inspector, permit spend, etc.) may not be required fields, and consequently will not be documented. This does NOT mean, that if inspection details are not listed then there was not an inspection for that project, it simply means the inspection details were not recorded by the building department. Similarly, if contractor details are not listed, this does not mean a contractor was not associated with that project.
